In 1995, a public art competition was launched on the theme of ‘Maternity’ for a monumental sculpture to be installed in front of the Lariboisière Hospital (Paris, 10th arrondissement). Derbré presented a 60 cm plaster sculpture that was selected (middle photo).
He produced La Maternité, cast in bronze using funds from infant formula companies (Diepal Nsa (Alma and Gallia brands), Guigoz, Nestlé France S.A., Miliupa, Sodilac).
La Maternité was inaugurated in June 1996.
