Le Chat is part of a series of polished bronze sculptures exhibited at the Artcurial Gallery in Paris in 1976 on the theme of 'Derbré ou les corps vivants' [‘Derbré, or Living Forms’]. Sculpted several times by Louis Derbré, the figure of the cat represents 'nature in its simplicity' for him.
